Today, we have a fabulous sewing project that will add a touch of style and functionality to your collection. This Pyramid Zipper Bag tutorial will help you make a delightful accessory that’s perfect for keeping your essentials organized and easily accessible.

In this step-by-step tutorial, we’ll guide you through the process of creating your very own Pyramid Zipper Bag. With its unique triangular shape and eye-catching design, this bag is sure to become a favorite among your sewing projects.
Before we get started, gather the materials listed below. I cut my fabric from 2 coordinating fat quarters, but you may have some fabric remnants of appropriate sizes. So, let’s dive right in and get sewing!
You will need the following:
- Two fabric rectangles that measure 15” by 8” in two different designs, one for the outer and one for the lining.
- One rectangle of fabric that measures 3” by 9” for the handle.
- 7” zip.
Seam Allowances: all are ¼”.

Step 1 – The Handle
Take the small fabric rectangle and fold in half long ways, make a crease with your fingers or iron. Open out and fold both of the long raw edges into the centre crease. Re-fold back in half and sew along the long open edge. Press flat with your iron.

Step 2 – Adding the Zip
Switch your regular presser foot to a zipper foot. Place your outer fabric right-side up and lay the zip along one of the short sides. Make sure your zip is facing down so that the zip pull is sitting on the right-side of the fabric. Then place the lining fabric right-side facing on top, lining up all edges. Pin in place. Sew along the outside edge as close as you can to the zip teeth without touching them.

Step 3
Repeat for the other side of the zip, lining up the raw edges and sewing in place.

Step 4
You now have a figure of 8 shape that looks like the photo below.

Step 5
Turn the tube inside out so that the lining fabric is on the outside. Flatten the tube so that the zipper is running down one side. Mark the fold on the opposite side with a pin at the bottom. This marks the centre point.

Step 6
Reflatten the tube so that the bottom of the zipper lines up with the pin. Stitch along the bottom of the bag. To give it a really strong seam you can sew it twice. Trim off the raw edge with pinking shears (if you don’t have pinking shears you can use a zig-zag stitch).

Step 7 – Sewing the Top Seam and Attaching the Handle.
First un-zip the zipper. Reflatten the top of the bag so that the zipper is running up the side. Sandwich the handle between the two outer layers. Put one end at each edge of the bag to create a handle. Make sure the raw edges of the handle are lined up with the raw edges of the bag and pin in place. Sew across the top edge of the bag and trim the raw edges with the pinking shears (in the photo the bag is upside down so this seam is the one at the bottom of the photo).

Step 8
Turn the bag right side out through the unzipped zipper opening.
Congratulations! You’ve reached the final stitches of our Pyramid Zipper Bag tutorial.
