New Sewing Project Kits Inspired by William Morris

There’s something very special about working with classic designs, and I’m so pleased to share two brand new sewing project kits that I’ve designed and made. These are created exclusively for Overdale Fabrics and not available anywhere else.

Following the lovely response to our previous kits, I wanted to create something new that continues that same balance of beautiful fabrics, practical makes, and enjoyable sewing. These two new additions are both inspired by the timeless style of William Morris, one of my personal favourite designers.

The Botanist Tote Bag Kit

The Botanist Tote Bag is a wonderfully practical project with a classic floral design inspired by Morris’s Marigold pattern. It’s the sort of bag you’ll reach for time and again. It’s ideal for shopping trips, days out, or carrying your latest sewing project.

Available in three carefully chosen colourways, you can pick the one that suits your style best.

This kit is designed to be enjoyable and rewarding to make, while also helping you build useful sewing skills. You’ll learn techniques such as constructing a structured bag, giving your finished piece plenty of storage space and a professional look.

William Morris Wash Bag Kit

The William Morris Wash Bag Kit features the much-loved Strawberry Thief design and is both practical and elegant. This is perfect for everyday use at home or when travelling.

One of the things I’m particularly excited about with this kit is the fabric. While it’s still 100% cotton, it has a Teflon coating, giving it a water-resistant, splash-proof finish. It’s something a little different from our usual fabrics, but I chose it because it works so well for this type of project.

If you haven’t used this kind of fabric before, don’t worry—it’s still soft, easy to handle, and runs smoothly through a sewing machine.

This project also introduces you to creating a box bottom, a really useful technique that adds structure and makes the bag far more practical to use.
