How to Get Started with Applique
If you’re new to applique, let me assure you—it’s much easier than it looks, and the results are lovely! Once I’ve prepared my paper templates, I like to use Fus-a-Web (or Bondaweb) on the back of my fabric pieces. It’s brilliant for positioning the applique pieces exactly where I want them, and then I sew around the edges to secure them in place.

Inspiration for Your Peace Dove
For my project, I chose a soft grey ‘linen-look’ cotton for the dove, paired with a silver-and-grey star print background. If you’d prefer a more traditional look, you could use crisp white for the dove and a rich red or green fabric for the background—it’s entirely up to you.
I also added decorative stitching to the body of the dove using my sewing machine. It’s an easy way to add texture and detail while giving the finished piece a professional touch.
