About Cindy

Hi!
I’m Cindy

I started sewing when I was eight years old, and I haven’t really stopped since. What began as a childhood hobby grew into a degree in Textile Design, a teaching career, and eventually Overdale Fabrics. A business built entirely around my love of fabric, colour, and helping other makers find their confidence.

I set up Overdale in 2013 because I wanted to create the kind of online fabric shop I wished existed. One where the quality is consistent, the products are unique, and there’s always someone on hand if you need advice.

“Quilters and crafters are a genuinely wonderful community. They put real care and time into their projects, and they deserve a supplier who takes that seriously and gives them the best possible materials to work with.”

My Background

Textile Designer and Teacher

My training is in Textile Design, and it’s where I developed the eye for colour and pattern that shapes every bundle Overdale puts together. Knowing how fabrics work together comes from years of experience and studying design. This includes understanding how scale and tone interact, and how to pair a hero print with the right coordinates.

Before Overdale, I spent eight years teaching art and textiles, from secondary school through to A-Level and special educational needs. That experience taught me how to break creative skills down into clear, achievable steps — something I still bring to the blog tutorials, patterns and sewing project kits today.

I’m also a maker myself. I’ve made quilts, designed my own patterns and completed all kinds of projects from bags to table runners. I know exactly what makers are looking for because I’m one of them.

More than just fabric

My Mission

I want to help sewers, quilters and crafters reach their potential.

“You’re going to invest a huge amount of time into a project. You want a good result. That’s why I’m so particular about what goes into every bundle. The fabric has to be worth it.”
